HOT Questions

Definition: Gathering evidence of student learning and providing feedback to adjust instruction accordingly (can be formal or informal). This can also occur throughout a lesson by monitoring student responses, reactions, or group discussions

Definition: Occurs at the end of a big chunk of learning, it is important to make sure the assessment is high-quality. Review with students beforehand both the material, and test taking skills.
Examples: STAAR Test, Unit Exams

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Periodic testing throughout the school year, not much feedback given to students. This assesses if students are in a good spot academically according to where they should be compared to standards.
Examples: District assessments, MAP Testing
Performance
Definition: Students are bale to demonstrate their knowledge in open ended ways, these are typically long term projects

Definitions: Used to identify what students can do in order to help the teacher guide instruction better. This type of assessment identifies student strengths, weaknesses, and misconceptions.
