Helping a Struggling Student
Review school procedures for addressing the student's type of behavior
Discuss with other teachers. Does the student struggle similarly in other classes?
YES/NO
If YES, teachers should discuss with each other and with school staff to determine the best course of action
Teachers should discuss with student and parents
A best course of action should be determined and initiated
Situation should continue to be monitored; strategies for addressing challenges can be adjusted as needed
If NO, the issue may have to do with subject or instructor's style
Teacher should talk with the student to understand the situation more fully
Ideally, teacher can attempt to address the situation directly. Is this successful?
YES/NO
If YES, the problem is solved. Continue to monitor the situation
