Innovation and organisations, Learning outcomes,…
-
-
Innovation is a new idea, device, or method as well as the act or process of introducing new ideas, devices, or methods.
Session summary
This section provided an introduction to the core themes of this module – innovation and organisations. It focused on the broader role of business functions within organisations and their relation to innovation. It explored the different types of innovations and innovation environments linked to these functions. It also highlighted the potential biases that these function-based perspectives can have for conceiving and implementing new ideas. Finally, it investigated how to put in place an organisational culture of innovation, and briefly looked at some of the twenty-first-century opportunities and challenges organisations face in successfully doing so. The rest of Block 1 will explore innovation from an external and internal perspective: examining the business functions of marketing and operations management, respectively.
