Signs of a Struggling Student
Difficulty focusing or frequently off-task
Academics below that of grade-level
Problematic classroom behaviors
Student is behind peers in other skills (social, emotional, communication)
Helping a struggling student
Step : 1
Teacher notices issue in the classroom and observes student's problem behavior.
Step 2
Review information about area of concern. Review school records -- determine if these issues are new or have been a reoccurring issue.
Step 3
Establish Student Success Team meeting and alert parents.
Step 4

Student is referred to special education testing.
After multiple interventions have been attempted, and were unsuccessful, student may be referred to special education testing. Will be determined in Student Success Team meeting, including the professional that will test the student.
Determine if strategies have been effective. If so, continue implementing the strategy. If not, attempt a new strategy.
Carry out strategies and monitor them in the classroom.
Discuss possible strategies and modifications for student.
Disrupting other students
Being aggressive
Incomplete classwork or homework
Turning in assignments late
Randomly filling in answers
Difficulties in peer interaction
Not participating in classroom activities
