Summative
Definition: Evaluate student understanding and learning at the end of a unit. These are your big grades that count for a lot at the end of the 9 weeks
Final Project: A final assignment project that utilizes all aspects of student's learning through the entire term
Final Paper: A paper that students write at the end of the term that are a culmination of everything that they've learned throughout the semester
Formative
Definition: A way to assess students in order to collect feedback to be used for the modification and adjustment of instruction. These are typically low stakes assessments that contribute little to none in grade value.

Bell Ringer: Students will answer a simple question through google chrome at the beginning of class to get the gears turning

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Used to assess where students are in their learning and determine if they are "on-track" with their learning enough to succeed in future assessments
Chapter Test: After completing a chapter or set of chapters in a novel students will complete a chapter test to assess their level of understanding on a novel
STAAR: Standardized tests required by Texas to assess students' knowledge and understanding in a grade level
Diagnostic
Definition: Used in the form of pre-assessment to determine the strengths and weaknesses of a student. This form of assessment garners extremely helpful information for teachers to plan future instruction that meets all students needs
Reading Inventory: A test that evaluates students reading ability, monitor progress in reading, and set goals for reading growth in students
Student Reading Profile: A test that evaluates students tastes in reading and how they would prefer to read that teachers can use as a guide for future book assignments
