- Can help determine student's level of learning based on standards and goals

Diagnostic assessment can help the teacher identify students’ current knowledge of a subject, their skill sets and capabilities, and to clarify misconceptions before teaching takes place. Knowing students’ strengths and weaknesses can help you better plan what to teach and how to teach it.
An example of diagnostic assessment: Give the students'Get to know you survey' at the beginning of new semester. The survey questions include: student's learning style, strength and weakness, interest topics, challenges, etc. The students will be encouraged to fill out the survey in the target language. Therefore this diagnostic assessment help the teacher to study the child both in personality and in subject knowledge.
What is a diagnostic assessment?
Diagnostic assessments are sets of written questions (multiple choice or short answer) that assess a learner’s current knowledge base or current views on a topic/issue to be studied in the course.
