Formative
Formative assessments are constantly used by teachers. They are generally ungraded assessments used to drive the instruction.

Performance
Performance assessments are assessments that require the students to perform a task instead of just answering questions.
Science Lab: In a lab in science class the students are acting out the experiment to show you that they understood the information you taught during the unit.
Unit Projects: The students create something to show you their knowledge on the subject matter you taught during the unit.
Interim/Benchmark
Interim/Benchmark testing is used to gauge a student's learning progress. It allows you to test and see if the students are on track with their learning.
Benchmark Testing: When the school gives students a test that is like the STAAR. It measures how much they have learned throughout the year. These tests are usually done twice a year.

Summative assessments are used at the end of units. They are usually graded, and show the teacher if their students learned the material from that section.
Essays: Essays are used to allow students creativity while testing their knowledge on the subject matter that has been taught.

Diagnostic testing is used as a pre-assessment to be able to see your students strengths and weaknesses they have coming into your classroom.
Progress Monitoring: The progress being monitored of the student will follow them into the classroom, and can help you properly differentiate.
