critics argue that dominant ideology is not what keeps working class in place
instead suggest things such as economic factors (Abercrombie et al)
ideology - a worldview or a set of ideas and values (a belief system)
negative connotations
distorted, false or mistaken worldview
concealing the interests of a particular group
preventing change by misleading people
self-sustaining belief system - irrational and closed to criticism
often used to describe things people find morally and/or factually wrong
