Causes of the War
Serbian nationalist group “Black Hand” planned an assassination on the to-be leader of Austria-Hungary, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The reasoning was because of the ethnic Serb population in Bosnia and Croatia which Serbs believed that those Serbs in those countries deserved to be a part of its own Balkan country, and Austria-Hungary was a threat to Serbian independence.
Alliances caused a domino effect on countries joining the war just for the fact they needed to fulfill the alliance.
Nationalism made people have no sympathy towards other and made then tensions in Europe had reached an all time high.

Weapons of the War
War planes were another new invention and were not used a commonly as now because the average lifespan for a pilot in the air was 4-6 hours of battle before they were shot down. War planes were used in almost every successful offensive.
The machine gun was introduced, a fully automatic weapon that had an rpm of 600 rounds. A weapon that would change firearms and ballistics forever by far the most intimidating weapon and effective weapon to use in defending an enemy assault on allied trenches.
Artillery was a modern innovation to counteract trench warfare and attack the enemy without putting friendly troops at risk, arguably the most destructive weapon of the war causing 60% of troop casualties
