Macromolecules
Protein
Function: makes the muscle, skin and hair and are structural support. Transport substances, cell communication and speeds up reaction.
Beef, lamb, veal, pork, etc.
Monomers: amino acids
made of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen
Lipids
Function: Creates the barrier in a cell, lipids repel water. They make hormones and cholesterol.
Fatty meals and fish, cheese butter, etc.
monomers: fatty acid + glucose
Made from Carbon and Hydrogen
Carbohydrates
Function: Breaks down carbs into monomers for energy, they make the call wall in plants and the muscle tissue in animals.
Table sugar, milk, candy, soda, etc.
Monomers: Carbo
Made of Carbon and water
Nucleic acids
Function: labels genetic information (genes) in every cell. Makes DNA and RNA.
It's in all living things, everything we eat.
Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus
Monomers: Nucleotides
