HENRY BECAME KING AS HENRY VIII
He was a typical Renaissance figure
He initially was Catholic and attacked Martin Lutero(when nailed his anti-Catholic theses to the door of Wittenberg Castle Church
So Henry VIII became the "DEFENDER OF THE FAITH"
Things changed when Henry asked the pope to
Declare his first marriage invalid becausw Catherine had given him a daughter (Mary)
The pope refused so the kimg BROKE WITH ROME
Henry declared the ACT OF SUPREMACY (1534) and became
The supreme head of the Church of England
From Catherine of Aragon had a daughter: MARY TUDOR o Mary Tudor (she was Catholic)
She was a Catholic and married Philipp II of Spain. SHE WAS CALLED BLOODY MARY because she persecuted Protestants and killed them
From Anne Boleyn had 2nd daughter ELIZABETH I (she was Protestant)
She ruled for 45 years. She gave England economy stabiility
And she brought pace
She was tollerant towards Catholics
She was called VIRGIN QUEEN and GLORIANA
