Examples of antacid: NaHCO3 (Sodium hydrogen carbonate), Na2CO3 (sodium carbonate), Mg??, Al?? --> Ca(OH)2, Mg(OH)2, Al(OH)3, (group 2-3 metal hydroxide) Na2CO3, NaHCO3 / / strong bases = group 1 hydroxides, Ba(OH)2
-Ca(OH)2 + HCl --> CaCl2 + H2O, -Mg(OH)2 + HCl --> MgCl2 + H2O, Al(OH)3 + 3HCl --> AlCl3 + 3H2O, NaHCO3 + HCl --> NaCl + H2O + CO2, NaCO3 + HCl -> NaCl + H2O + CO2
pH is reduced as HCl is neutralized, water and salt formed
-Aluminum & Magnesium are often used together as aluminum works slow <-> Mg works fast. + Mg = laxative <-> Al = constipation (변비).
-CO2 gas produced causes bloating and flatulence (use of NaCO3 and NaHCO3)
--> Antifoaming agents are added (ex.alginates) + forms a raft to reduce reflux into esophagus.
-antacids affect pH of the stomach --> affects other chemicals and reactions --> should not be used for long term.
-forms wall in esophagus --> prevents influx diseases
