For your confirmatory hypothesis that you listed in the previous question, provide two statements or arguments from the introduction that justify this hypothesis (i.e., what was already known from past research that led them to their specific prediction?).
theory - general psychologgical phenomenon whereby parents are blamed for their childrens weights and stigmatized because of it...parents’ qualitative
reports of being stigmatized for their child's weight (p 35)
reason that just as socail precivers blame adults with high weigh for their ecess weights and thus stigmatize them. social percivers attribute children's excess weight to their parents and thus stigmatize those parents (p 35-36)
attribution theory framework has gratest empirical support for exploring why adults with high weight are stigmatized (P36)
social perceivers locate the causes of (excess) weight in people’s personal failings, using negative attributions about those people (i.e laziness) to explain their negative outcomes
justificantion and expression model of prejudice .. the more people beleive that an individual's neative trait is under their control, the easier it becomes for people to stigmatize that individual
-
in an expriment manipulating targets "blamewothiness/control" over weight (i.e thyroid condition) - decreases stigma.
people do not deem children responsible for their own weights... more likely to attribute childrens obesity to external rather than internal causes. (36)

State ONE confirmatory hypothesis and ONE exploratory hypothesis, both in operational terms. You can choose from any of the 3 experiments. Were these supported by the findings?
PoCH are stigmiatized (deemed bad parents) to the extent that they are attributed responsiblity for their children's (exess) weight
-
exploritory hypop - from one - people stimatize PoCH, compared with parents of children with so-called avr./healthy weight
What are some of the measures taken by the researchers in these experiments to hide the true purpose of the study from their participants?
Describe 2 aspects of the methodology (from any of the 3 experiments) that were implemented with the goal of hiding the true purpose of the study.
cover story that P's were veiwing real people whose privacy was protected via redacting textal info and blacking out faces on cards and they would rate these people as a parent romantic partner as an employee or in gen. really only the in gen rating and the role as a parent rating were important
partcipants completed 3 diffrent allocation tasks - one related to obesity, athletic prowess and acedemic succes
Identify how each may improve the internal validity of the study (be specific about how it could impact participant behaviour)

The authors preregistered their 1st experiment (here is the link to their OSF registration: https://osf.io/84tj2). Compare the description of their preregistration to the actual study. Did the authors follow their preregistration, or are there any inconsistencies?
Yes, folllowed number of recrits 269 and had 254 usable data after removing p's who failed the CAPTCHA
Stated theoretically, “parental stigma” is the DV of interest in this series of experiment. What is the operational definition (i.e., how was it measured)?
On page 37, under the “Measures” section, the authors write that participants answered “two face-valid items”. Explain what they mean by “face-valid”.
Read the “Materials” section and the first paragraph of the “Measures” section of experiment 1 on page 37. Taking into consideration the example scenario and the focal dependent variable, comment on the reliability and validity of participant responses. Specifically, describe two potential response biases or participant artefacts that could exist in this study.
Compute a power analysis with GPower to confirm the authors’ a-priori power analysis in experiment 1. Take a screen shot of your GPower output showing the same suggested number of participants and upload it here.
In the Abstract, the authors state that “experiment 3 manipulated attributions of parental responsibility for child weight”. Describe how “attribution of parental responsibility” was operationalized (i.e., manipulated) in experiment 3.
