My Papas Waltz, All three of these poems describe the struggles that women…
My Papas Waltz
My Papa's Waltz describes a father and son dancing together. The waltz not only represents the dance, but the relationship between the father and son. Through the description in the poem, we can tell that the speaker loves his father, but also feels uneasy around him
"But I hung on like death:
Such waltzing was not easy." This quote shows both how much the boy loves his father, but it is not easy loving him
"We romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf." This quote also displays both a negative and positive description. Using the word romped gives a lighthearted mood, but if pans are sliding from ,the kitchen shelf it seems to be out of control
"The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy" Suggests that the father is very drunk, making the boy uneasy

These poems have a theme of time passing by. The woman ages, the boy grows up, seeing his father differently.
