What is lexis?
corpora, dictionaries, grammar books, etc.

vocabulary = single words, sometimes tightly linked 2-3 word combinations
lexis = our "internal database" of words and complete 'ready-made' combinations of words that we can use and recall without having to construct new phrases/sentences
grammar = generisable patterns of language; our ability to construct new phrases/sentences to express precise meaning

short, teacher-led focus on the meaning, form and use of lexical items; presented lexical items are connected in some way
