Types of Chemical Reactions
Single Replacement
A reaction in which an element reacts with a compound and takes the place of another element
A + BC3 -> AC3 + B
Fe + PbSO3 -> Pb + FeSO3
K + NaCl -> KCL + Na
Double Replacement
A switch occurs between 2 compounds
AX + BY -> AY +BX
KNO3 +AlCl3 -> AL(No3)3 +KCL
AgNO3 + NaCl -> AgCl + NaNO3
Combustion
AB + C -> AC + BC
a chemical reaction usually involving hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen, and usually accompanied by the generation of heat and light
CH +O2 -> CO2 + H2O
CH4 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O
Decomposition
The chemical breakdown of a compound into two or more simpler, balanced parts
AB -> A + B
H2O2 -> H2O + O2
Ca(OH)2 -> CAO + H2O
Synthesis
A + B -> AB
C + O2 -> CO2
two or more substances react to produce a single new substance
2Na + Cl2 -> 2NaCL
Precipitation
AgNO3 +CaCl2 -> 2AgCl + Ca(NO3)2
AB + CD -> AD +BC
a chemical reaction occurring in an aqueous solution where two ionic bonds combine, resulting in the formation of an insoluble salt
CuSO4 + 2NaOh -> Na2SO4 + Cu(OH)2
Neutralization
The reaction of an acid and base that forms water and salt
AB + CD -> AD +BC
H2SO4 +NaOH -> H2O + Na2 + SO4
HCL + NaOH -> H2O + NaCl
