HISTORY OF CAMPANIA. From the middle of the II millennium BC. the Campania. it was inhabited by the aurunci (or ausonii) and the osci. In the 8th century BC. the first colonies of Magna Graecia arose on the coasts, among which that of Cuma assumed a prominent position, while the inland areas were occupied by the Etruscans.

the beginning of a long and bloody war of liberation (Risorgimento) against the Austrians which ended in the liberation from foreign domination after disastrous battles near Solferino in 1861. In the same year the kingdom of Italy was founded to which the Veneto joined in 1866.
