Explain two effects of the U2 incident (1960) on relations between the US and USSR.
Evidence
Americans sent U2 planes east of Soviet Union very high where they couldn't detect them.
High-altitude U-2 spy planes began making reconnaissance flights over the USSR in 1956, giving the U.S. its first detailed look at Soviet military facilities
the U-2 aircraft were initially unreachable by both Soviet jets and missiles. However, by the spring of 1960, the USSR had developed a new Zenith surface-to-air missile with a longer range. On May 1, that weapon locked onto a U-2 flown by 30-year-old CIA pilot Francis Gary Powers.
Spy planes ended up crashing and being used for propaganda against US
American authorities acknowledged the incident as the loss of a civilian weather research aircraft operated by NASA, but were forced to admit the mission's true purpose a few days later after the Soviet government produced the captured pilot and parts of the U-2's surveillance equipment
Relations tensed as it was a public and political embarrassment for US after getting caught
US did see USSR military and information before crashing. overall the publics embarrassment had affected the Paris summit
