I Think It's Time for Klopp to Go
In his first press conference as Liverpool manager, Klopp uttered the iconic line. "We have to change from doubters from believers"
In his first month he already did. In his first season, we had already converted into believers. Enthralling wins against Man City and Chelsea in his first few months. Two cup finals- which included an awesome Liverpool-esque comeback vs Dortmund
Now were back to doubters again.
And Klopp let it happen.
We became one of the most exciting teams in Europe. We played high-octane, intense, exciting football. Liverpool were a pressing machine, hounding their opponents for every inch. We won the Champions League and the Premier League. We were the best team in the world. We could conquer anyone. We were believers again. In fact we were more than believers. We were achievers.
The intensity and physicality that was once the identity of this Liverpool is no longer there. The tactical set up seems to be all over the place. What was once the world's best attack is now toothless. Mo Salah, Liverpool's best player in the past half-decade has been isolated, playing as wide as a wingback. The midfield has been allowed to grow old together. The midfield's was once known as a workhorse, yet technically secure midfield. Now, it is neither. The defence has been exposed all season. Not one player has had a good season for Liverpool. The system is clearly disjointed. Liverpool don't press with that old intensity and fluidity and effectiveness anymore. The team looks unmotivated and tired. Klopp himself looks tired. He sounds tired, too.
Klopp's comments have been concerning. Remember the time that he said "maybe we've been spoilt with constantly finishing in the top 4?" We've left this stage ALREADY. We are supposed to win titles, NOT be content with second place.
Klopp has been too loyal to players and too romantic with his actions. Insisting that Henderson must be signed to a new contract against the data-driven analysts that he had worked with to build this magnificent team. Now, sporting director Micheal Edwards has departed and his replacement has, too. Coincidence? Probably not. And now that Edwards has left and Klopp has gained more influence, our two major signings have severely underperformed.
Lack of tactical flexibility. It is clear that we do not have the necessary players for the 4-3-3 high press system to work. Why does Klopp insist on beating a dead horse?
Many say give Klopp a chance to make a rebuild.
We shouldn't have to have a rebuild in the first place.Elite managers build while they're at the top, so that they can stay there. By letting the players and the system grow stale, Klopp has let Liverpool lose at least 2 seasons of greatness. It's what Sir Alex Ferguson did. It's what Guardiola has been doing to tremendous effect- although with far higher resources.
The team has grown stale with him. What are the signs that he'll be able to turn a new leaf? He's never rebuilt a tea, before. If he has truly gained more influence in the transfer department, then we are screwed. Klopp famously wanted Brandt ahead of Mo Salah. Salah is now arguably the greatest winger of all time. Brandt is a backup winger for Dortmund. If Klopp had his way over Edwards, we would not have tasted the success we have today.
Granted, the team that Klopp has had to field for the past few weeks is nowhere near his first XI. But why are our players constantly injured? It's been a feature throughout Klopp's tenure- even when we were good. Is our training to intense? Is the intense style of play conducive to injuries especially with little depth in our squad due to lack of funding? Is our medical staff simply terrible?
The players who are playing look so dead and unmotivated. It feels like they're not playing for him anymore. They don't have that fire under their belly anymore. If Klopp is not able to motivate his team right now, why would that suddenly change next season- even with new owners?
When the new owners come, we need a total reset. The club has slowly become rotten, and unfortunately, our beloved manager is part of that. It needs to wiped clean
Team seems to be caught in two minds. Are we the high pressing team full of physical monsters or are we a team full of small technical players? One ideology got us our most successful period in recent memory. The other has us in 10th.
Fans are going in to games with the expectation to LOSE now. Not to win. That's terrible, and it's the 2nd time in 3 years it's happenned to our club.
Main Point: It doesn't look like things are going to get better, so Klopp should depart early before his legacy and memory by Liverpool fans is tarnished
Article will have a tone of overwhelming gratitide. This isn't me turning on Klopp. I will always call him Mr.Liverpool, but this is me admitting that for Liverpool to succeed in their next few years, Klopp has to depart to protect his legacy and our memory of him.
