Ruth Hernandez Per 3 cardiovascular system
disorders and disease-
congenital heart disease- structure or function of the heart has an issue
endocarditis- inflammation of the heart
myocardial infarction- blood flow to the heart is blocked
peripheral artery disease- arteries narrow and reduce blood flow to extremities
cerebrovascular accident- blood flow to brain is interrupted
major blood vessels
Deep Veins- Brachial Veins,Ulnar veins,Radical Veins,Femoral veins
superficial Veins- Cephalic Veins, Axillary Veins,Great Saphenous veins
Internal jugular, Brachiocephalic vein, superior inferior vena cava
external Jugular, subclavian vein,basilic vein
abdominal aorta
inferior vena cava
common iliac
internal iliac, External iliac
subclavian artery
aortic arch
axillary artery
common iliac artery
thoracic artery
femoral artery
anterior tibial artery
fibular artery
carotid artery
brachiocephalic trunk
ascending aorta
brachial artery
ulnar artery
radical artery
blood flow structure:
Superior/ inferior vena cava-Right atrium-tricuspid valve-right ventricle-pulmonary semilunar valve- pulmonary artery -lungs- pulmonary vein- left atrium-bicuspid valve-left ventricle aortic semilunar valve - aorta-rest of the body
layers of heart
Epicardium- Outermost layer. made of connective tissue and epithelium
Endocardium- Innermost layer which is made of connective tissue and epithelium has purkinje fibers
Myocardium-middle layer,cardiac muscle,thickest layer,pumps blood
anatomy of the heart
4 chambers to the heart= left atrium, right atrium, right ventricle, left ventricle
apex extends to 5th intercostal space
base in beneath the second rib
hollow cone sjaped pump in mediastinum
vital signs
BP(blood pressure)- The force that blood exerts against inner walls of blood vessels
Pulse- The amount of times your heart beats per min
will be elevated if any type of exercise is done right before taking it
major functions of caridvascular system
supplies the oxygen and nutrients necessary for the tissue
major components/functions of the blood
red blood cells,plasma,platelets,white blood cells
hemoglobin,hemostasis
granulocytes; agranulocytes
arteries- are strong elastic vessels adapted for carrying high blood pressure blood usually transport blood away from the heart .... arteries become smaller as divided and rise to arterioles
veins- carry blood to the heart... are also blood reservoirs
Cardiac cycle and ecg
ECG- recording of electral change during cardiac cycle
cardiac cycle- atria contract and the ventricles relax the ventricles contract while the atria relax as which makes everything relax
blood vessel types
blood vessels- form a closed circuit that carries blood away from the heart to the cells and back again to blood vessels
capillaries- are blood vessels w the smallest diameter...
ABO RH Blood types
O- has neither antigen but has both antibodies
B- Has B antigens in RBCS and anti A antigens in plasma
A- Has antigens in RBC and anti B antibodies in plasma
RH- does not have antigen D
Universal donor- can donate to any blood type
