Nomenclature and Formulas
Simple Binary
Definition: Two elements being compunded together
Rules for naming: combine the name of the cation and the name of the anion, in both cases omitting the word ion.
Rules for writing formulas: a metal will always be the first element in the formula, while a nonmetal will always be the second.
3 examples for formulas

KCl is Potassium Chloride
Simple Ternary
Definition: three elements being compounded together
rules for naming: stating the cation first, followed by the anion.
3 examples for formula
Sodium Hypochlorite is NaClO
Berylium Chlorite is Be(ClO2)2
