Figure 1: The framework of questions, purpose, methods, and findings restores the functions of the ancient shipwreck with surrounding environments (ASSE) in the Taiwan Waters
3.
Various data collections
(2)Social Medium, documentary on television network, conference workshop, ecosystem-based managemenr (EBM)
(3)Physical approach libraries for books, magazines, museums, exhibitions, and data analysis creates three questions for the online survey
(1)Online searching
shipwreck, marine spatial planning (MSP), biodiversity, ecosystem, cultural heritage
Previous studies, United Nations website, International Conventions, Regulations, Official websites, Policy, marine environment, marine protected areas (MPA), nature-based solutions (NBS)
4.
Online Survey from 1/Nov/2023 to 31/Dec/2023
(2) 75.93% support that ASSE functions in the Taiwan Waters embody cultural values, evolve significant environments, enhance biodiversity, improve economic livelihoods, and require policy strategies for resilience.
(1) Criteria of participants, the population all 9647 people of National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) includes students, professors, and administration in the year 2023.Total 403 online respondents from 1/Nov/2023 till 31/Dec/2023
(3) 58.56% encourage that MSP could identify and restore ASSE functions through environmental impact assessment (EIA), technologies, stakeholders' engagement, and adaptive management
(4) 53.60% favor MPA could rehabilitate ASSE functions and establish buffer zones for economic development in harmony with NBS in the Taiwan Waters.
5.
Interview during 1/Nov/2023 to 31/Dec/2023
(1) The criteria of participants are the same with online survey
(2) Target 30 participants from 10 departments or institutes of NTOU related to ASSE. Finally, only 9 successful participants from 8 departments or institutes
(3) The research process inspires generations in various sectors and requires policies and strategies to restore ASSE functions.
(5) The Penghu community participation has been targeting the ancient shipwreck “Jiangjyun No.1” to balance resource conservation and economic livelihood. Furthermore, the government could cooperate with the community and offer incentive strategies to restore ASSE functions, such as legislation, incentives, subsidies, and tax discounts
(4) Penghu and Lyndao, Taiwan, have successfully engaged community participation through a bottom-up approach that offers the government opportunities to restore ASSE functions.
The question is how to restore ASSE functions in the Taiwan Waters?
The findings suggest that adaptive MSP integrated management could identify and restore ASSE functions. This approach could be applied to other marine management
The purpose identifies ASSE, establishes integrated management, and coordinates stakeholders to restore ASSE functions.
