Valves: Unidirectional way blood flow through heart to prevent backflow, open and closes in response to pressure changes
Atrioventricular valves: located between atria and ventricles, 2 prevent backflow into atria when ventricles control
- Tricuspid calce: right AV valve made up of 3 cusps and lie between right atria and ventricle
- Mitral valve ( left AV valve, bicuspid valve): Made up of 2 cusps and lies between left atria and ventricle
Chordae tendlineae: anchor cusps of AV valves to papilary muscles that function to: hold flaps in closed position, prevent flaps from everting back into atria

ABO, Rh blood types
Proteins found on surface of RBCs that allow use to type blood as A,B,O or AB are called antigens
Abo groups: based on presence or absense of 2 agglutingens on surface of RBCs, blood may contain performed anti-A or Anti-Bodies ( agglutins)

to AB-, B-, A- and O- can give blood

most common blood type, and O- most universal as well

Tunica media is thin, but tunica externa is thick, contains collagen fibers and elastic networks, blood pressure lower than in arteries so adaptations ensure return of blood to heart
