Readings/Research/Tips
"100 Things Every Designer Needs to Know About People"
Ch. 15, 16, 17 (How People Read):
choose easy reading font (easily readable)
font size matters > choose a text that all audiences can easily see/read
choose a font family with a larger x-height (such as Tahoma/Verdana)
screen reading is harder than reading paper > choose a good colored font & background (enough contrast)
best combination is black text w/ white background
break-up text (bullets, short paragraphs, images, etc.)
know your audience > make sure the content is something they want and/or need.
Ch. 25 (How People Remember):
People tend to forget most of the times. So, when creating an online site or whatever it is, use dropdown menus, or give other choices (because the audience may forget information).
Ch. 27, 29, 35 (How People Think):
use "Progressive Disclosure" (providing only the information the audience needs at the moment.
Give them links so they can click if desired or needed.
The reader/audience can "click" or "tap" for more info by choice.
The more optional clicks, the better (this will allow for less work or thinking of the person utilizing the site).
Ch. 44 (How People Focus Their Attention):
7-10 minutes maximum for any presentation (as that is what a person can focus for)
If more than 7-10 minutes is needed, give a little break
Ch. 79 (How People Feel):
people use "look" and "feel" as the first indicator of trust.
Design factors like navigation, color, look and feel, text size, text font, name of website, etc. can affect if and how a person trusts the website/site.
Ch. 94 (How People Decide):
audience will invest time in the product if you build a personal connection w/ them
know your market/audience
most people are influenced by time and experiences (that produce a personal connection) than by money
