Earthquakes and Volcanoes
Layers of the earth
The structure of Earth:
Crust
Mantle
Outer core
Inner core
Convection Currents
are the result of differential heating
Plate Boundaries
Destructive plate boundaries - the plates move towards each other and this can cause earthquakes as the plates collide the oceanic plate is forced beneath the continental plate
Constructive plate boundaries - the plates are moving apart from one another
Sliding plate boundaries - oceanic or continental plates slide past each other in opposite directions
Collision plate boundaries -
if two continental plates collide and can't move so create earthquakes
Types of volacano
A shield volcano has long, gently sloping sides that resemble a shield. Shield volcanoes do not have explosive eruptions.
Composite volcanoes are steep-sided volcanoes that can be found around the world. The steep sides of these tall volcanoes are formed by layers of lava, ash, and rock.
