Act VI: Ethic Dilemma
Machine Learning
Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence
Some emerging technologies are drones, augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D painting, blockchain, metaverse, 5G cellular technology, and many others.
Difference between humans and machines
Humans are creative, imaginative, they think and understand situations, humans have emotions while machines do not do any of these things. Machines are made and operate to do what humans want to. Humans get knowledge by living and machines from data.
Can machines think?
I think machines can replicate data from humans for different situations but they can not think by themselves.
The abuse of artificial intelligence tools
Fake news, hacking, anonymous weapons, algorithmic trading, no creativity, laziness, no ethics, no emotions, unemployment, between others.
How is Turing’s Test .present in this episode ?
It is present because Martha tried to prove the clone to see how accurately and similarly he responded to what Ash would have done in a specific situation.
She tried to understand if he could respond as a human (Ash) so that he couldn’t look all the time as a clone faking Ash (which was what happened).
Can we consider the Ash “Clone” as a person?
No, because it is a machine that got the data from the real Ash to recreate his “personality” but he was not as accurate as how Ash would act. He wasn’t a real human being.
Dehumanization
Technology and its use to deal with grief
usually when we feel in a bad mood, we take refuge in social networks. We see the fake lives of others and feel safe by stepping out of reality.
Addiction to technology, specifically with Martha
She got addicted to her phone, like everyday and every time was on her phone talking with Asher. Even when she was at the hospital she got desperate because she broke her phone and imnediately she bought another new phone.
The idea that the consumer becomes the product
Basic needs are part of people's daily life, however, created needs are made so that humans feel a need for something that is not really necessary, so technology is the pillar for this to develop.
How can technology make us less humans?
technology is not that it makes us less human, but it can replace us in certain aspects, or even diminish human interactions in different aspects
DISCONNECT FORM TECHNOLOGY
Why do you think Martha kept the clone in the attic?
Because at some point it was the only thing he had left of Asher. He really missed him and she couldn't get rit of it twice.
Why do you think the episode is named “Be Right Back”?
Because even if her husband was dead he came back but in a robot way. The reference is to the fact that in her mind she never left and because she was connected to this device she never lost connection with part of her husband.
What is te propose of Technology?
The purpose of technology is to innovate and create tools that facilitate certain activities or that are supportive in people's daily lives.
Basic needs are part of people's daily life, however, created needs are made so that humans feel a need for something that is not really necessary, so technology is the pillar for this to develop.
How can we differentiate Science from Technology?
Science is all the knowledge we have on the subject, on the other hand technology is the application of knowledge to a tool. Ethical dilemmas are not exclusive to technology, because science also requires ethics and morals to investigate more about the issues, but technology should take them into account because they are the ones in charge of applying previous knowledge.
