Gerunds and infinitives
A gerund is a verb form that ends in “-ing” and is used as a noun (walking, traveling, voting); an infinitive is the base form of a verb preceded by “to”
Whether you use a gerund or an infinitive depends on the main verb in the sentence.
Infnitives after certain adjectives
passive voice
The passive voice is formed by using a form of the auxiliary verb “be” (be, am, is, are, was, were, being, been) followed by the past participle of the main verb
Example: He loves me. I am loved. We took our children to the circus
first and second conditional
First:We use the first conditional to talk about possible situations, things that may easily happen. We use the second conditional to talk about unrealistic situations.
Second:The second conditional is used to imagine present or future situations that are impossible or unlikely in reality.
giving advice
If you give someone advice, you tell them what you think they should do in a particular situation
articles and nouns
Noun:An article is a word that is used to indicate that a noun is a noun without describing it. For example, in the sentence Nick bought a dog, the article a indicates that the word dog is a noun.
Article:
An article is a piece of writing which explicates ideas, thoughts, facts, suggestions and/or recommendations based on a particular topic.
past tenses
The past tense expresses actions that have happened in the past. It's one of the three main grammatical tenses, with the other two being present and future. The past tense is used to indicate that an event has already happened, but it can also display a state of being
used to /would
We use used to + infinitive to talk about a past situation that is no longer true. It tells us that there was a repeated action or state in the past which has now changed.
