I intend to build a piece of storage that can be used for multiple purposes. This fits the contextual challenge of everyday life that I decided to choose
Primary Research
I asked my family a series of questions and noted their answers. I gave them options or if they did not think any of them were relevant I allowed them to give their own opinion. Here are a few examples

Secondary Research
For my secondary research I looked at similar products that I could take influence from in my design

I also looked at ventilation and how I could blow air throughout a cabinet or hanger to be able to dry off wet clothes
For this I took inspiration from custom computer building, with extensive fan and cooling solutions within that industry

My final thoughts were about how to freshen the smell of stinky/ sweaty clothes, and for this I thought of a mist sprinkler system, inspired by fire sprinklers in american houses however using scents similar to those from Febreze spray

Market Opportunity

A large amount of shoe and coat racks exist already, ranging from £30 to £300 +
The lower of the two pictured to the right was the cheapest unit I could find, using basic materials

I aim to create a piece that can be sold at a more premium price than this however still affordable under £100
I want my piece to still look high end whilst being affordable, having the right amount of storage space to maximize the space available

Target Market
20-30 years old (those who live in smaller houses, new homeowners, sharing a house with friends)
40-60 years old (those who have children or lots of shoes)

Targets the middle class as it comprises the majority of the population, this storage device will be most useful to middle class citizens too
Designed with the ability to be used anywhere in the world without discriminating against any religions or cultures

Type of Product
A hallway unit for storage of outdoor items, mainly shoes, wellies, coats,

It needs to be safe for people to use without getting injured, one measure would be rounded edges
Cost

The slightly higher price allows for a higher quality of manufacture, allowing for the product to be longer lasting, to be able to last the time it takes for the buyer to move house or restyle
This price range targets the ideal market of middle class with a small budget for decorating their home, and is realistic to the product that I will be producing
