When we want to talk about an action that occurred in the past and ended in the past and we indicate the time in which the action occurred ("last night" and "yesterday") it is used to talk about actions already concluded in the past.

Last week we traveled to Canada.

We use the negative auxiliary "did not" (or its contraction didn’t)

We necessarily use the auxiliary "did" to form the questions. Look at the structure

The present perfect is a grammatical combination of the present tense and the perfect aspect that is used to express a past event that has present consequences. To form the present perfect, the auxiliary verb "to have" is used in the present and the past participle of the verb.
