Project Management and Distance Education.
Why Distance Learning
The Distance Education boom.
The offer of virtual courses and programs is increasingly diverse. The best educational institutions in the world have partnered with the purpose of democratizing quality education and expanding their horizons.
New paradigms generated by the NICT. Virtual environments, online education, e-learning, blended-learning.
Change is one of the attributes of our time, especially in the field of technology, where the rapid process of technological advances led to the emergence of the so-called New Information and Communication Technologies (NICTs) which, in turn, impose a new technological paradigm
Advantages and disadvantages for institutions and companies that wish to implement the modality.
advantages
It goes beyond the confines of the classroom.
Avoids teachers' trips.
It makes possible the investigation of the processes of institutional management, allowing to feed back .
Stimulates creativity for the solution of institutional situations by sharing experiences and different paradigms.
It generates social inclusion.
It favours permanent training.
Within the diversity of institutions, it creates a space for autonomous and unique management working on the same principles
It fosters awareness of the professional community, where ideas, experiences and practices converge with each other.
Innovative markets for education and continuous professional training.
Every educational product or service is designed to satisfy certain needs and desires of the public to whom the offer is addressed. The reason for making this effort to cover these motivations lies in the concern to achieve the mission and institutional objectives of those who propose the programs
EaD institutions, mega universities and international organizations.
The figure of mega universities has become a possibility for education based on the intensive use of computers and telematics as essential tools for achieving coverage and access, since "globalization and the knowledge society are two major engines that are driving the massification of higher education in Latin America, which is expressed both through levels of competition in labor markets and in the willingness of households to sacrifice income and time for training.
Design of an EaD project: management areas.
The organization for education in the virtual world needs a particular structure. Like any other educational organization, virtual educational organizations must manage both the processes that affect students (academic management) and those that affect teaching (teacher management). But the way to do it will be different.
Steps in implementation.
In order to work on an EaD project, or blend, it is necessary:
To manage with fluency in the use of the technology.
Communicate information and ideas using different media and formats.
Access, exchange, compile, organize, analyze and synthesize information.
Draw conclusions based on information obtained.
Know how to find additional information.
Basic keys to success.
In virtuality, as in presence, the different paths coexist and complement each other. Educational actions in which both the educator and the student know how to be flexible in the process and adapt the methodologies and didactics to the educational needs, the profile of the components of the process and the learning context have a fairly guaranteed chance of success, as well as a high level of training quality.
Technology for Learning
How to choose and evaluate them
The variety of existing platforms is very wide, so it is essential to determine in advance the requirements we will place on that platform. Of course the most important thing is to make a detailed study of the specific training needs, and from that study, begin to know the possibilities that exist in the market.
Platforms, how they are, what they allow to do.
It is a software system designed to facilitate teachers to manage virtual courses for their students, especially helping them in the administration and development of the course. The system can often follow the progress of the participants, can be controlled by the teachers and the students themselves. Originally designed for the development of distance learning courses, they have been used as supplements for face-to-face courses.
An educational platform can be used as a complement to face-to-face education, to distribute material, to keep records of educational activities and to maintain communication with the study group in spaces outside the classroom.
Images, sound, video, simulations, animations
Images: these are documents made up of pixels. They can be generated by copying the environment (scanning, digital photography) and tend to be very large files.
Sound: can be speech, music or other sounds.
Video: Presentation of a number of images per second, which create in the observer the sensation of movement. They can be synthesized or captured.
Computer simulation facilitates the experimentation of working hypotheses with a model of reality. The use of simulations in the educational field is very appropriate in certain learning. Thanks to simulation, a model of a real system can be designed so that students can carry out experiences with it in order to understand the behaviour of the system or to evaluate new strategies for its functioning.
Animation: presentation of a number of graphics per second that generates in the observer the sensation of movement.
Multimedia presentations
Multimedia presentations or computerized slides are computer documents that can include text, diagrams, graphics, photographs, sounds, animations, and video clips and can be viewed, one by one, on the computer screen as a slide show.
Project Evaluation & Quality Control
Fundamental concepts
Evaluation is perhaps one of the most important topics in education today, not because it is a new topic at all, but because administrators, educators, parents, students and society as a whole are more aware than ever before of the importance and impact of evaluating or being evaluated.
Techniques and instruments for the evaluation of the student.
Evaluation instruments: This is the physical medium used to collect information on student learning. Any resource that provides us with information about student learning. No instrument is sufficient on its own if it is not used intelligently and thoughtfully. The more information that is obtained, the more certain we are of the results we hope to achieve. The instruments must evaluate significant learning.
Techniques and instruments for student self-evaluation
Evaluation Techniques: These are a set of actions or procedures that lead to obtaining relevant information on student learning.
