Telemachus travels to Pylos to speak with the the king named Nestor who knows his father and saw him after the Trojan Nestor does not know where Odysseus is but he does share the fate of Agamemnon with Telemcahus. Agamemnon was murdered by Aegisthus. Nestor send his son Pisistratus with Telemachus to Sparta. Athena reveals her divinity by turning into an eagle in front of the entire court of Pylos.
Book 4
Telemachus and Pisistratus arrive at Sparta, they meet the Queen and Kind (Helen and Menelaus). Menelaus and Helen are celebrating the separate marriages of their daughter and son. Menelaus and Telemachus talk about Odysseus's great achievements in the war. Menelaus tells Telemachus that Odysseus is trapped on Calypso's island. Telemachus plans to head home, but the suitors are going to kill Telemachus when he returns.
Book 5
The Gods have a meeting in Olympus about Odysseus's fate. Poseidon is thankfully not there when the gods decide to help Odysseus escape from Calypso's island. Zeus sends Hermes down to tell Calypso to release Odysseus and build him a raft so he can sail away, she provides this form him. Odysseus can see the island of the Phaeacians, but Poseidon returns and sees Odysseus escaping so he makes a terrible storm. Odysseus almost drowns but is saved by the goddess Ino who gives him a veil to hide him. Odysseus washes up on the island of the Phaeacians.
Book 6
Athena appears in the dreams of the Phaeacian Princess, she encourages her to go to the river where Odysseus is at to wash her clothes. In the morning Nausicaa ( the princess) goes to the river and while she is playing around the river naked waiting for her clothes to dry Odysseus sees her and asks for her help. Nausicaa gives him directions to the palace and gives him advice on how to approach her mother, Queen Arete.
Book 7
Odysseus is traveling to the palace when he meets Athena again in disguise. She offers to take him to the palace and helps him make a good impression on the people in the city and on the king Alcinous and the queen Arete. Upon meeting them the king at first thinks that Odysseus is a god, Odysseus does not tell him ho he is but he says he is a mortal. King Alcinous sees Nauicaa's clothes on him and tells Odysseus to explain how he came here. Odysseus explains how he was washed up and Nausicaa gave him clothes to wear.
Book 8
Alcinous calls for an assembly, at the assembly everyone feasts. During the feast a Bard sings the tale of Odysseus battling Achilles, Odysseus starts crying and Alcinous ends the song. After the feast, Odysseus beats all of the Phaeacian athletes' games like throwing knives and spears, etc. Phaeaican men offer Odysseus goods for his travels to Ithaca. The bard sings another song about the Trojan Horse which Odysseus starts crying again.

Telemachus calls for a meeting in the morning in the meeting he says what has been on his mind for the past few years. He packs for his journey to find out where his father is. Athena helps him find a crew and gives him advice.
The Gods discuss what they are going to do with Odysseus and his family. Hermes is sent to Calypso to help Odysseus escape while Athena is sent to Telemachus ( Odysseus's son) to help him find news about his father. Telemachus becomes the "man of the house" essentially by stepping into his father's shoes.
