Example
A “unit” or specific tariff is a tax levied as a fixed charge for each unit of a good that is imported.
Quotas
A quota is a government-imposed trade restriction that limits the number or monetary value of goods that a country can import or export during a particular period.
Example
A proportionate part or share, such as a sales quota, i.e. the target that companies’ salespeople must hit each week, month, quarter or year.
Example
A restriction that the government imposes on imports. In other words, an import limit. With this meaning it is a form of protectionism.
Subsides
A subsidy is an amount of money given directly to firms by the government to encourage production and consumption.
Example
Student loans, are given to encourage people to further their education.
