MEDICATION
Alprazolam (Xanax) is to treat anxiety and panic disorder. This medication can cause paranoid or suicidal ideation and impair memory, judgement and coordination. Should not be taken with other substances and grapefruit.
BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONS
Breathing control
Relaxation techniques
Increased Physical activity
NURSING INTERVENTIONS
Establish and maintain a trusting relationship by listening to the client
Move client to a quite area with minimal stimuli
Maintain a calm, non threatening manner
PATIENT EDUCTION
Educate the patient about stress
Explain the signs and symptoms of anxiety
Teach patient to use positive self talk
Teach patient and family about medication
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Panic disorder is a type of anxiety disorder. The panic attack is the key feature of panic disorders. A panic attack is the sudden onset of extreme apprehension or fear usually associated with the feelings of impending doom "I am and going to die."
IMPORTANT ASSESSMENTS
Important assessments would include doing a head to toe asessment, MSE, a stress test
