Project
Definition
A project is a unique and temporary endeavor. It has a defined beginning and end. And the purpose of the project is to create a specific product or service or to make changes to a specific product or service.

Matrix Organizations
weak, balanced, and strong
In a weak matrix
Func Manager is in charge
He or she has the assistance of a project coordinator
The coordinator helps maintain the schedule and status, but does not have decision-making responsibility
balanced matrix:
Recognition that having a PM assigned will help ensure PJ success
The project manager has some decision-making responsibilities
The PM manages the team to stay within scope, schedule and budget
In a strong matrix:
PM has much more authority and responsibility, but not complete authority and responsibility
PM still cannot make all decisions
works well when team members are assigned to multiple pj and other work
the PM will most likely run multiple projects
Projectized Organization
there is little to no project management. PM acts as the manager of the team
PM is king or queen
The team works in one project
PM may write performance appraisals
best for most importan project
Functional Organization
works well for groups who do not run many projects
PJ which are not complicated and not a tight deadline
limited conversation between team members

Your stakeholder does not really know about the pj and what it is providing
Your goal is for this person to understand why the pj is important
You at least want them to be supportive, and perharps take on a leadership role
Resistant
Your stakeholder knows about your pj and is not in favor of it
This person does not like what your pj represents or the changes it may bring about
Try to bring this person to a more neutral position
Neutral
Supportive

Document
After a pj has been selected and approved, the first document to be created is the
