Co-Teaching Formats
Team Teaching
-
Most useful if both teachers have appropriate knowledge of the subject and have thoughtfully planned out the lesson and work well with each other.
Teachers are able to combine their teaching styles and knowledge. This can give students the advantage of being able to learn from two teaching styles instead of just one.
In my lesson plan, I think Team Teaching would have worked well for my students. Since my lesson was on the 3 branches of government I think having a Team Teaching format would have benefited the students because we could add a little bit of role-playing to the lesson and one of us could have been the executive branch, one could have been the legislative branch and the students could have been the judicial. This way one of us could explain the executive branch and the other could build off of that to explain the legislative and then we could both explain the judicial branch. This method would also have been beneficial for defining important vocabulary words. As well as, both of us could assist students with their government trees
One Teach/One Support
Best used when a new lesson or content is introduced or when one teacher has greater experience or knowledge of subject area.
One teacher leads instruction, while the other teacher walks around and assists students as needed.
Teachers alternate roles in different lesson so students don't gravitate more to one teacher than another.
Station Teaching
-
-
Allows students to experience multiple aspects of the content and practice it in different ways at each station and with different teachers.
Alternative Teaching
One teacher instructs the majority of the class while the other teacher works with a small group off to the side.
This method would work best with differentiated instruction and providing one-on-one instruction for students who may need extra help.
However, It's important to note that pulling the same students for the small group may result in them feeling lack of inclusion with the rest of the class
Parallel Teaching
This format has the class split into two groups with each teacher teaching the same lesson to each small group of students
It is essential that both teachers collaborate together to ensure that they teach the same content and both groups of students receive the necessary information and quality teaching.
It's important to mix up the groups of students and alternate teachers between groups so that students are taught by both teachers an equal amount.
