Distance learning
What is distance learning?
Distance learning describes any learning that occurs without students being physically present at the lesson. (However, this could also apply to the teacher in certain situations.)
Common types of distance learning
open duration
It is a type of asynchronous configuration of the courses, except that there are no deadlines
Fixed time
they are a type of synchronous course that requires online users to visit a specific virtual place and location at a specific time and place (for example, a webinar).
asynchronous
it is a format in which the teacher and the student interact in different spaces and moments
computer-based
it is a fixed and synchronous lesson on computers, usually a computer lab
synchronous
Synchronous distance learning is when all students learn together at the same time, with the teacher in another place
hybrid
combines elements of synchronous and asynchronous styles. May require some lessons to be more firmly programmed for topics where students need direct access to the instructor, while other lessons may be self-directed
Video conferencing
is a common way for teachers to interact directly with students live
Advantages of distance learning
Easy access
Whether due to remote location or disabilities, some students lack basic access to educational facilities. Distance learning programs offer all students the opportunity to learn and improve in the environment that they consider most effective.
Less Cost
Thanks to the scalable nature of digital learning, distance learning especially is reducing the cost of education.
Flexibility
The flexibility of distance learning is the main benefit. Students can choose when, where and how they learn by selecting the time, place and medium for their education. For those who want direct access to live teachers, there are video conferencing options.
How is distance learning different from regular learning?
For the most part, it translates into greater freedom for both students and educators, but it also requires greater degrees of discipline and planning to successfully complete the course of study.
What to look for in a distance learning system?
Accreditation
The credibility of a remote learning platform is really a combination of the instructor and the platform itself.
Calendar
Since most distance learning systems are made quite flexible in this regard, the course agenda has a lot to do with its content and not with the system.
Easy to use
Simplicity is the key. Any system that is adopted for teaching or learning should be user-friendly for everyone involved.
