MORAY
Aimed to see if people shadowing one task could recall anything from a rejected task. Known as a diohetic listening task

PROCEDURE
Experiment one - simple list of words repeatedly presented to one of ups ears whilest shadowed message in other ear. After 30s pps gave recognition test using similar material that wasn't in passage/ list as a control
Experiment two - pps shadowed 10 passages of light fiction & told that their responses would be recorded + they should try not to make mistakes. Rejected messages placed in other ear including pps name.
Experiment three - Participants were required to shadow one of two simultaneous dichotic messages. In some of the messages digits were added towards the end of the message either in both messages, or in one. The position of the numbers in the message and whether they were relative to each other in the two messages varied; controls with no numbers were also randomly inserted. One group was told they’d be asked questions about the content of the shadowed message at the end. The other group had to remember as many numbers as they could.
RESULTS
Exp 1- in shadowed message 5 were recognised in rejected 2, 3 recognised for first time in recognition test
Exp 2 - Most participants ignored instructions presented in passages. The use of name did effect it but only slightly.

CONCLUSION
If we focus on something that is playing in one ear, it is likely we will get none of the verbal content that is playing in the other ear.
The short list of simple words which were presented as the rejected message could not be remembered even when presented many times.
However, ‘important’ messages, such as our own name can penetrate this block, which may be part of the rejected message.

RELIABILITY
Highly controlled lab experiment and could easily be replicated and also could have high test-retest reliability because of this
