Supervisor meeting - 10th August 2020
ADS Data guidelines
Contact Hayden to have a look at his method statement for data collection
Apparently this was really useful, so may well be worth producing my own
BU border guidelines too
Useful to adhere to these standards, especially for demonstrating impact and when applying for future research projects and funding
Need to record metadata for my data in a way which makes future access easy
Chapter partial feedback
Prepare cleaner maps for historic brickmaking sites referenced in text
This implies use ArcGIS or QGIS and perhaps make it blank except for heights and rivers
At some point, but for the thesis more generally, tie in the recent interpretation of the Roman road network with the proposed ancient river course
Positive feedback overall, they particularly noted near-finished quality of my work
Finish and submit reference list and maps
AHRC New Generation Thinkers Scheme
Contact BU team and see if I am allowed to have someone outside of archaeology also look at and comment on my application
Plan out schedule for application progress; what do I want to have completed by what deadlines? How long is it reasonable to leave for feedback and adjustments
Supervisors happy to provide feedback!
Contact Stephen and Zosia and ask for their perspectives on BLM statue toppling
Also tie in Roman statue destruction into BLM paragraph, illustrating that destruction can be a potent ideological statement as well as a political one
Sampling strategy for Bath visit
Elaborated on developing Bett's recording style, but emphasising uncertainty in provenance data (i.e. emphasising risk) and reducing some of his recording info, notably comb or knife marks, to save time
Must explain and justify these inclusions or omissions in the text of my thesis to mitigate thesis questions I could have predicted!
Before going to Bath, sketch method, recording system, aims and objectives of these visits and perhaps submit to supervisors
With the assessment of provenance data, Mark suggested refining the end categories to better reflect divisions in material from Bath or other sites
Also discuss these classes with Zosia to refine them based on actual data
Email Zosia to get copies of retention policies for CBM from modern excavs of Bath, BAT policies and Cunliffe and Davenport policies if possible
CBM in Roman Britain
Sketch outline, aims and objectives of this chapter
E.g. summarising use of techniques, scale of awareness and current thinking on CBM in Roman Britain; what areas or industries have or are being concentrated on? Is there any awareness of co-production of pottery and CBM? How integrated are CBM studies with IA ceramic or CBM studies?
Kate, Mark and Derek all present
Chapter feedback aiming to be returned within a week or so
