Socially: Students may spend too much time alone. Or are too aggressive towards others (hitting, punching). Trouble with personal space.

Mentally: Sitting alone, quiet, misbehaving, acting out, crying. They may not want to come to school; be upset at the beginning of the day, messages from parents

Academically: Students may underachieve. Look at body language and behavior. Refusing to take part in a lesson, distracting others. Students may also pretend to work, but are not accomplishing anything.

✅ Don't confuse with ESL issue. Students may misbehave or withdraw due to lack of language ability.

Use Differentiated Instruction

Scaffolding: Support the process for students

Peer help: Students can support and help struggling students.

Level of Ability: Minimum of 3 different levels. Having 5 or more levels would be ideal.

✅ Students can present through different mediums. For example, if writing is a problem students can use video, drawings, Apps, translators etc.

1) Communicate via ClassDojo
2) Parents meet with Learning Community Team
3) If necessary, involve head of Student Support Department
4) Provide ways for parents to support their child at home.
5) Reinforce importance of working together for best interest of studen

1) Head of SSD will obverse the child
2) Learning Community Team and SSD will meet.
3) SSD will lead a meeting with the parents.
4) Refer and support to China special education services.
5) Process can take long to get the parents on board.

School Administration's Directive for Special Education:


1) Contact head of SSD
2) Observe the child for a variety of lessons.
3) SSD will look at how they can provide support for the child.
4) Meeting with LCD and SSD
5) Invite parents for a meeting where SSD leads.
6) Depending of the level of need, may ask the parents to employ an attendant to support their child at school.
