Traumatic patriarchism
Women have been taught for centuries that there are only 2 roles: home maker (women) or money provider (men). Because women are encouraged to defy this they want to also do things men traditionally did however because of this traumatic long lasting separation of family and career, they now believe that they can't do both. In order to be empowered professionally, they can't also partake in having children as they will hold them back.
Angie sows a complex form of motherhood relations since she has a profound rejection of Joyce, the one who truly raised her, and admired Marlene, who abandoned her. Even when she doesn't feel she is wanted by Marlene when asking her to stay with her indefinitely, she still has much more admiration for her.

Power & individualism
contradiction
Every woman is pushing others to the limit to succeed. Encouraging but also preparing to be "tough birds". Marlene, Nell and Win support each other yet this is contradictory since the individualism they follow will make them care for themselves and their own empowerment rather than their empowerment as a community of feminists (not really feminism)
Marlene has a dinner party where a sense of community and female empowerment is seen with all women are listening and supporting each other. However, Marlene believes in individualism and in reality only supports herself and her career.
