Changing "
ICCA
" ?
(Aldea - Ecuador) on the other hand,
the name TICCA or ICCA in itself does not communicate well, unlike Territorios de Vida, which speaks for itself.
(San youth network - Botswana) not many people know the abbreviation of the Consortium and it is quite confusing
(Yu wich luum - Mexico) The ideal is to have a unique name because ICCA (in English) and TICCA (in Spanish) tend to confuse and think that they are two organizations.
Not obviously changing
( Quebec labrador Foundation - Canada) There has already been a lot of flux in names and terminology. So much is changing in the world, not necessarily for the better.
(FFP - Global ) I remember well the compromises by which we ended up as ICCA and these different points of view have not gone away. // Changing the name won’t change what we do, will it?
(Kalpavriksh - india) I think in most part the name does represent the Consortium. If the term ICCA as is clear to people then icca consortium becomes fairly clear. I have not very strong views on this. things are constantly changing anyway but I am not sure if we need to. This term because of the efforts of the people has over a period of time established itself and is becoming known where it matters. unless it is causing great harm or discomfort to someone i don’t think there is any reason to change. it is as good a label as any other would be. what we do under this label and how we establish ourselves in the heart and minds that would bring about a change is what is needed.
(Kasapi - Philippines) No need to change for a new name - The acroynym ICCA embodies who we are as a group, our intents and reasons for being. How else must we exist if not rooted on these values of IKSP?
(SNS - Global) My concern is with defining local communities, there is no legal basis and much discussion. I would nonethelss keep the name, give it another 20 years ;-)
The issue is in "
Consortium
"
(Aldea - Ecuador)
I believe that the word "Consortium" refers to a more entrepreneurial and less communitarian concept;
(Cemi - Colombia) It has already been widely discussed that
the word 'consortium' has difficult connotations in LA
(Mupan - Brasil) the ICCA Consortium today has been gaining ground and showing more and more its role in the defense of the territories,
but still needs to work so that the doubts, as between the Consortium and the TICCA Concept, are addressed and resolved better.
Besides clarifying the role of the consortium, which many territories see as a financier and not as a supporter or facilitator in the search for solutions to internal challenges.
(Nuiwari - Mexico) The term consortium in our country is more associated with business organizations and this generates confusion. I think it would be enough to make a small change in order not to lose the work of positioning the TICCA concept. Maybe: Global TICCAs Network.
New name suggestions or orientation
Suggestions
(Oxlajuj Ajpop - Guatemala ) Global Consortium of Territories of Life
(Natudev - Burkina faso) World Alliance for the Conservation of ICCAs
(NJ - South Africa) Territories of Life Consortium (TLC)
(Nuiwari - Mexico) Maybe: Global Network of TICCAs .
(Uninomad - iran) international consortium of indigenous communities
(resguardo Cañamomo Lomaprieta - Colombia ) Programa para los Territorios de Vida
(Savia - Bolivia) ICCA Network
LMMA Network - Global ) Indigenous Consortium
GFC - Global ) ICCA Alliance/Network/Platform
(Fides - Ecuador ) Territorios de Vida
BED - Croatia) ICCA ALLIANCE
Orientations
(Blue ventures - global) On the current name: I think it may not immediately convey the meaning of the network to outsiders -
the language used can be exclusive rather than inclusive.
( Comunidad de Vilar - Spain) we suggest
avoiding too many acronyms or words that are too institutional
(Consortium) and emphasize the idea of "Territories in life", which is much more descriptive, attractive and poetic.
(KUA - Hawai'i) I feel I do not have enough knowledge of the significance of our name in an international sense. The IPLC term that I learned more of when we were at the COP-CBD is easier for me to quickly recall. But I don't know what corner that might paint us in.
(NTFP - EP Philippines ) Keeping the name seems fine but probably have a slogan at the bottom that can be used in communications, eg. The ICCA Consortium, for Territories of Life
(Mike Ferguson for QWB - Artic ) Most new-be's or outsiders don't get the name. It needs significant explanation. Inuktitut and perhaps other languages do not just grab acronyms and go with it, ignoring the true meaning. ICCA has needs several words and connecting word chunks in Inuktitut. "Territories of life" has a ring to it, but again new-bys and outsiders don't quickly grasp the concepts, and it requires several words in Inuktitut. So I'd like to a new tight conceptually recognizable name, but then my mind goes blank as to what would be a good easily understandable name.
(KESAN -Myanmar ) ICCA is a very technical term internationally, could be better to focus more in territories of life as it is more descriptive and easily accessible to people not informed of what ICCAs are
Advices on the proces
(FENAMAD - Peru) The name hardly reflects the work of the Consortium. It is now also true that a name change implies the reconstruction of the public and virtual identity, which is also complex. The pros and cons need to be well assessed in Assembly and a decision needs to be made.
