Definition : can be described as a model of leadership in which teaching staff at various levels within the organisation have the opportunity to lead (Harris, & Lambert,2003)
PURPOSE:This leadership is not individual or positional but a group process in which a range of people can participate.
Teacher leadership " an outgrowth of expert practice and expert knowledge" (Zimpher,1988,p.54).
TASK PERFORMED BY TEACHER LEADER INCLUDE: Monitoring improvements efforts; selecting curriculum; participating in administrative meetings;peer coaching;engage parent; community participation ;etc.

Challenges and Obstacles to the development of teacher leaders.
1.The culture of the school ,threat to SMT.
- Unwillingly educators , role without pay.
3.Inadequate time for collaboration , learning , and leading.
- Lack of incentives for engaging in leadership activities.
- Inadequate communication and feedback among teacher leaders,principal, and staff.
- Traditional Top down leadership structures prevent developing teacher leaders and structure to support them.
- Embedded in the notion of distributed leadership- emphasis on multiple leaders.
**Three international development foci : Individual; Collaboration or team ; and Organisational development.
