Identifying and Helping Struggling Students

Lacks self motivation

Cannot stay on task

Has difficulty following directions

Has behavioral issues

Unorganized and cannot remember deadlines

Take longer to complete work

If any of the signs are present, have a one on one session with the student to help further identify any issues

Signs of a Struggling Student

Formulate a personalized learning plan for the student.

Student shows improvements

Student does not show improvement

Continue to modify and implement the personalized plan


Notify school administration and continue personalized learning plan

Student does not show improvement

After meeting with school administration, involve parents.

Create new PLP with parent support

Student does not show improvment

The parents are referred to specialists in the area or out of the country.

If disabilities are present

Parents are given an option of providing a learning assistant to accompany the child in the classroom.

(At this point my school has very few options)

Student shows improvement

Student does not improve

Parents are allowed to keep students enrolled but no further accommodations are made by the school
