Interview: verbal self report in which questions are asked by an interviewer, usually face to face

Interviewer bias: When the interviewer interprets the interviewee's responses in line with his or her own expectations
Interviewer effect: When an interviewee gives false answers because they are influenced by the characteristics of the interviewer (eg. saying you revise a lot when you don't because the person asking is your teacher)
Leading question: A question worded in a way which suggests that a particular answer is correct - biased and low in internal validity (form of interviewer bias as the expectations of the interviewer influence the way in which the participant responds
Middle value response bias: When Ps choose midpoint answers in scale questions to avoid being seen as extreme in their attitudes

How to increase validity
In questionnaires
avoid fixed choice Qs as there may not be an answer that applies to them and so they'd be forced to choose a response that is not true to them

avoid semi-structured / unstructured as they are likely to produce leading questions, which force a particular answer and lead to invalid results
