CONTRIBUTION
Imam Muhammad al-Syafie, his great contribution was the codifying and organization of a concept known as usul al-fiqh(the principles behind the study of fiqh). During his illustrious career, he learned under some of the greatest scholars of his time, and expanded on their ideas, while still holding close to the Quran and Sunnah as the main sources of Islamic laws. Today, his madhab (school of thought), is the second most popular on earth, after the madhab of Imam Abu Hanifa.
Al-Risala was not meant to be a book that discussed particular legal issues and Imam Syafie opinion on them. Nor was it meant to be a book of rules and Islamic law. Instead, it was meant to provide a reasonable and rational way to derive Islamic law. In it, Imam Syafie outlines four main sources from which Islamic law can be derived:
Book-- al-risalah
- The Quran
- The Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad
- Consensus among the Muslim community
- Analogical deduction, known as Qiyas
A major contribution of Imam Syafie in the Foundations of Jurisprudence
(usul al-fiqh) is his division of innovation (al-bid`a) and
innovated matters (al-muhdathat) into “good” and “bad”
depending on their conformity or non-conformity to the guidelines
of the religion. This is authentically narrated from Imam Syafie from
two of his most prestigious students in the later period of his life.

We can also emulate Imam Syafie who master a variety of disciplines. In the field of science of Hadith, he is a respected figure and called Nasir Al-Sunnah (sunnah).
Imam Syafie put Hadith acceptance criteria to prevent the entry of false traditions.
In the field of jurisprudence, he was the founder of the science of fiqh and first to record his fiqh opinion. He was the first to compile a book jurisprudence as the basis for every mujtahid to ijtihad.
In conclusion, we can see the benefits of Imam Syafie seek knowledge so that his fiqh knowledge has become a guide until now. His sincerity in seeking knowledge can be evidenced by his study of the many teachers who were mostly scholars. This led him to train himself to be a liberal and be able to explain things in detail. He is also well known for its advantages that are not available on scholars such as efficient speech and writing. He also had many students. This leads to science being taught to his students can be spread to others quickly.
