Racial diversity is imperative to an optimal learning environment because students learn more from those with different backgrounds more as opposed to a homogeneous group.
Disadvantaged minorities have a chance to obtain leadership and professional roles, advancing the common good and the university's mission.
Conversely, racial preferences can heighten racial tensions, lead to white students resenting minorities for preferential treatment, and damage the self-esteem of minority students.
