Music 6 Pre-Assessment: Sightreading Warm-Up Exercises
Group 1: Students who sang
all the exercises accurately
Assign each student a partner who
is struggling with reading the chart
to help him/her master the material
For ELL students & students with special needs:
1) Write lyrics using vocabulary words for warm-up exercises
2) Allow them to sing in their comfortable tone
3) Provide them with music Braille codes
4) Demonstrate for them during class or sharing a recorded sample online/offline
Assign a task to compose their own
warm-up exercises with specific requirements in the rubric
Assigning advanced warm-up
exercises
Group 2: Students who missed
one or two exercises
Hand out a printed copy of exercises that need more practice and share it with parents online
Share recorded samples of the warm-up exercises online
Keep a record of students' progress after the performance and share the notes; hand out supplementary music theory worksheets or provide the entire class a relevant lesson, if necessary
For ELL students & students with special needs:
1) Share the progress with the specialist and parents and ask for assistance
2) Lower the level and focus on motivating the students to sing confidently
3) Provide them with music Braille codes
4) Demonstrate for them and sing with them
5) Submit a voice recording of practicing the exercises that need to be mastered
Group 3: Students who missed
more than two
Hand out a printed copy of exercises that need more practice and share it with parents
Practice with a partner from Group 1 for the given amount of time inside and outside the classroom
Provide any extra support to learn how to read music notations
Review the basics with the class in the beginning of the class regularly and take a pop quiz
Keep a record of students' progress after the performance and share the notes; Use positive and encouraging words
For ELL students & students with special needs:
1) Communicate with the students, teachers, and parents frequently; arrange a parent-teacher conference, if necessary
2) Have the students sit near me for immediate feedback
