      - Ask if the article is a useful and trustworthy source
      - Note the title--what does it tell you about the article’s topic/argument?
      - Is there an Abstract (paragraph that summarizes topic, questions, research methods, findings)?
      - Subheadings--what do they tell you?
      - Note bold/italicized terms

      - Identify the main thesis
      - Underline the thesis and write it in your own words in the margin
      - Continue reading the first sentence or two of the body paragraphs
      - Highlight the point of each paragraph and summarize it in the margin in your own words
    - - Now that you have a good idea of the article’s thesis, read through the entire article and look for more details. Highlight supporting evidence
      - Write any questions you have in the margins
      - Circle any words you don’t recognize, look them up in a dictionary, and write their meanings in the margins

        Nor
        
        We use the nor conjunction to join two alternative clauses when the first clause uses a negative such as neither or never
        
        Mary never wrote the letter, nor did she call him.

        We use the but conjunction to introduce a clause that contrasts with the preceding clause
        
        Mary ran fast, but she couldn't catch John

        We use the or conjunction to join two alternative clauses
        
        Will Mary go, or will John go?

        Yet
        
        The yet conjunction is similar to but. It means something like but at the same time; but nevertheless; but in spite of this. As with but, there is a contrast between the clauses
        
        I have known him for a long time, yet I have never understood him.

        So
        
        The so conjunction means something like therefore; and for this reason. We use so to join two clauses when the first clause is the reason for the second clause
        
        He was feeling sick, so he went to the doctor

        We use and to join two clauses that have equal value
        
        London is in England, and Rome is in Italy.

        For
        
        We use the for conjunction (meaning something like because) to join two clauses when the second clause is the reason for the first clause
        
        He felt cold, for it was snowing.

      - Salad is not expensive; moreover, it's very healthy.
      - What he did was incredible; in fact, I can hardly believe it.
