Character Traits Of Chapter 4
Jack
-
While killing the pig, the boys who accompanied him were saying "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood."
While he was wearing the painted mask, he snarled and acted like a different person. As mentioned in the previous chapters, he was feeling guilty while killing the pig.
-
The way William Golding describes the movement of Jack killing the pig seems passionate and very intense. This shows how indulged Jack is while killing the pig. While talking to Ralph, he used the phrase "we had a smashing time".
Wearing the painted mask must've made him think that he is not himself right now and his only mission is to kill the pig right now, no matter how brutal he had to be with it.
-
Roger
Roger led the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones.
-

-
Henry
-
He prods and pokes at the native jellyfish, creating channels in the sand, and experiencing the freedom to lord over creatures that are less powerful than him
-
-
He assumes a dictatorial manner, experimenting further with mastery over other creatures as he traps tiny transparent beach scavengers in his footprints
