Why throw seeds on the path/ rocky ground?

I walk in the countryside (dogs) and see ground being prepared, ploughed, and then seed is laid precisely (computer programmed) - maize maze (slide) - not scattered.

Rocky ground

... hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
